Leadership

SOPHIA has been in operation since 1983 in a variety of forms. As an organization, it has represented the interests of philosophers who seek to engage the wider public with their work. It also represents those who wish to be inclusive of a variety of approaches to philosophy and applications of it. For some time, participation in SOPHIA has been selective and honorary.

Today, SOPHIA is in a period of growth in terms of activity and membership. The forms of membership in SOPHIA begin with the organization's leadership, described here below. We are presently developing new policies of assocation and membership in SOPHIA and will post more information about that on our membership page. The present page lists the members of the Board of Trustees for SOPHIA, an incorporated non-profit organization, as well as the Officers. If you are interested in taking part in the leadership of SOPHIA, which has a promising future that you can help to shape, contact the Executive Director, Dr. Eric Thomas Weber (etweber@olemiss.edu).

Officers

The board of trustees elects officers to carry out the business of the society. These officers include a Chairman of the Board, a Vice Chairman of the Board, and Executive Director, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and such officers, if any, as the Board of Trustees may from time to time appoint or elect. At present, these offices are held through the end of 2011 as follows:

Chairman of the Board: Dr. John Lachs
Vice Chairman of the Board: Dr. Kenneth Stikkers
Executive Director and Treasurer: Dr. Eric Thomas Weber
Secretary: Dr. George Lucas

SOPHIA is looking to enlist further, energetic scholars to take charge of the organization's future. If you are interested in first becoming a member and possibly taking a leadership role in SOPHIA, contact the Executive Director, Dr. Eric Thomas Weber (etweber@olemiss.edu).
